Scawby Home School Association
Dear Parents/Carers
On behalf of the Home and School Association committee, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Scawby Academy.
Scawby Home and School Association is the voluntary parent and teacher association of Scawby Academy. Each year an annual general meeting is held to elect any new members who wish to be involved in fundraising for their child's school.
The fundraising is to provide funds for our school in order to purchase resources to supplement the curriculum. We aim to ensure the children have the best possible resources to make their education enjoyable and worthwhile.
The committee members organise events for children and family members. these events can take the form of children's discos, bingo nights, cinema nights, pantomimes, talent shows, quiz nights and race nights.
We organise 'Team Scawby' merchandise. Children may wear these for PE or when representing the school at sporting events. Available to purchase are Polo Shirts and Hoodies which can be personalised with your child's name on. This clothing is of course optional.
On a twice yearly basis, we arrange for Bags2school to collect unwanted clean clothes, bedding or shoes which are then sold on for recycling to importers throughout the world. Each kilogramme weighed raises 50p for school.
As a registered charity all funds collected go straight to the school. In recent years we have provided money for scheme reading books, dictionaries, maths software, maths and history resources, a sound system, an interactive whiteboard and electronic screen for the hall, refurbishment of the library facilities as well as playground equipment. We also fund events for children such as Theatre visits. This year, foundation children enjoyed watching chicks hatch, the rental of an incubator and the purchase of a web camera was funded by our association.
Other ways to fund raise
We always collect supermarket vouchers, such as those from Sainsbury’s Active Kids, Tesco Schools and Clubs and Morrisons Let’s Grow (and tokens like Nestle Box Tops for Books from cereal packets, too!).
If anyone feels they want to contribute and have a say in the needs of the school then please join the Home and School Association to bring fresh ideas and initiatives to the fundraising schedule. Scawby Academy warmly welcomes as much parental involvement as possible in order to maintain the good status it has already achieved. you may choose to serve on the committee or simply help out at discos. Any support however small is greatly appreciated.
The Annual General Meeting takes place in late September. A letter informing you of the date and inviting you to attend will be sent out during the first week of September.
